By Lana Patel

The sores that occur in your mouth from time to time are called canker sores. Canker sores can be quite painful depending on how big it is.

An outbreak of the canker sore can last up to a few days. Doctors are still unsure of what exactly causes canker sores, although they theorize that it is because the white blood cells attach the cells in the mouth.

Prevention of canker sores is the best way to go. Avoid using toothpaste that contains sodium lauryl sulfate. SLS is a compound that can dry out your mouth leaving it more susceptible to canker sores.

Make sure you get a good amount of sleep. Lack of sleep causes stress which can cause canker sores.

If you do not get enough vitamin B, that can lead to canker sores. Buy some vitamin B if you feel you are lacking.

Brush your teeth after you eat and then use antibacterial mouth rinse. Antibacterial mouth rinse will clear out the bacterium from you mouth which may be causing the canker sores. Alternatively you can rinse with hydrogen peroxide or a saline solution.

Put some baking soda mixed with water on your canker sore. Baking soda acts to soothe and heal the canker sore faster. Refrain from eating foods that cause more irritation to your mouth such as chips and spicy food.

Get some yogurt to treat your canker sores. Yogurt has the ingredient called acidophilus which can boost your immune system. By boosting your immune system it could heal the canker sores faster.

You can buy sprays or creams that can soothe the pain of canker sores. Usually you can find these at pharmacies and they do not require prescriptions.

You should use several of these techniques together to get rid of canker sores. When you feel the onset of a canker sore coming, do not wait until it becomes full blown. Instead, start combating the canker sore as soon as possible. - 26706
