Short term stress can be easily controlled by these four tips.
Count to 10.
When kids are angry, mothers often tell them to do this. It works very well. Whenever you are stressed or feel the early signs of stress developing, count slowly from one to ten. It does not matter if you say it quietly or aloud.
If you recognise stress early, this is often all you need to do. I remember a gentleman bursting into my consulting room. He was anger and wanted a heated argument with me. I told him to go back out, slowly count to ten, relax then come back in. He complied. He returned a lot calmer and we had a very good conversation. By counting to ten, he quickly calmed down. Counting down from ten to zero is also very effective. Here it feels like you are scaling down the level of stress.
Take a deep breath.
It is best to breathe in through your nostril. Breathe in slowly and deeply. Fill your lungs completely and if you can, hold it to the count of four. You then slowly breathe out through your mouth.
Repeat a few times and as your breathing becomes slower, you feel yourself becoming more and more relaxed. Like counting, this is a quick and easy way to reduce your stress level. In addition, if as you breathe in and hold your breath, you visualise all the stress in your body slowly diffusing into your lungs and as you exhale, you are slowly expelling the stress for a calmer and more relaxed you, you will notice the difference.
Get up and walk about.
Take a break. Walk away from the stressful problem or situation. This helps you to calm down and take an objective look at the problem. It helps you to calm down and you are likely to address the problem differently. In addition if you do something completely different, you are allowing your Subconscious Mind to find a solution while you are pleasantly occupied. The financier Morgan Stanley played solitaire when he could not find a solution to a problem. While playing solitaire, several ideas came to his mind.
You can go for a walk especially in the park. There is something relaxing when you are near to nature. You tend to synchronise with the earth's frequency. Your brainwave drops to this frequency for peace and tranquillity. You feel calm and relaxed. You can get the vacuum cleaner out and clean the house. Put the problem out of your mind. You will be surprised how different you feel about your task in front of your.
Talk to someone or write a journal.
Write a journal or have a chat with someone. This will help to control stress. When you talk to another person, you are sharing and the problem may not seem so difficult. If that someone is knowledgeable in your field of work, you may get different ideas on how to approach your problem.
There is no better stress buster than a simple thought or idea in your mind that will lead to the solution to your problem. You become focussed and energised because you can visualise the successful outcome. Your stress will change to the desired stress that produces maximum efficiency.
If you are alone and there is no one to talk to, the next best thing is to write your journal. In your journal, you are listing out the specific items that are stressful to you. By writing it on paper, it becomes tangible and helps you to take a different approach to the problem. - 26706
